Dragon Boat Races 2010
This year Rob & Mike's Company, MCE, put together a dragon boat team for Harborfest 2010. Our team consisted of 2 returning paddlers and 9 new paddlers. We were able to practice 4 times and our steersman said we had a good chance of getting in the upper division. Sat. we raced a pro team from Iowa and they beat us in the first heat and we came back to beat them in the second heat. Our second race of the day was against South Haven Community Hospital, we beat them in both heats. Putting us in the 2nd place for the day and in the upper division. On Sunday we raced the same team we raced on Sat. morning and we came in roaring and beat them in both heats!!! So we were now going for first or second place in the Komodo division. We were the only SH team to take place in the Komodo division. Other teams that were in this division were 2 Iowa teams & a Canada team who are here every year. I think our adrenaline got the best of us and we lost to the other Iowa team for the first heat but we had our best time. We also lost, only by seconds, in the second heat. It was a disappointment but our team did a great job and put forth a lot of effort & work, as paddling is NOT an easy sport as many would think. Also a special thank you to Gary, our steersman, for taking us this far!
